GREENWOOD-LEFLORE AIRPORT (GWO), GREENWOOD, MS
In August 2001 we were travelling through the Deep South and since I'd heard there were airliners stored here, I had included Greenwood on my itinerary.
You need access to the ramp to get decent shots of the aircraft, but the Memphis Group showered me with Southern hospitality and allowed me and my son to wander freely among the aeroplanes.
Boy, it was hot ! But worthwile. It is kind of eerie, to walk among these ghostly aeroplanes, which have reached the end of the road (airways?) among the cottonfields of Mississippi. The airport is very quiet, what you'll hear is a rudder creaking in the wind and not much else.
It seemed fitting to dedicate a page to the airliners that are being taken apart here, possibly to live on as replacement parts in other airliners.
