We hadn't been to Rome in decades, and after Genoa and Venice in recent times it was high time we went. On this long overdue visit to The Eternal City ('La Città Eterna') I tried to steer away from the obvious buildings and architecture and maintain, as much as possible, my focus in photography on my interests: streetphotography, urban art and anything to do with photography.
But the backdrop remain of course a city so rich in history (the Kings, Popes, sackings and rebuilts) and culinary delights!
Enjoy!

GRAFFITI is form of visual communication, usually illegal, involving the unauthorized marking of public space by an individual or group.
Although the common image of graffiti is a stylistic symbol or phrase spray-painted on a wall by a (originally) member of a street gang, graffiti is often not gang-related anymore.
Graffiti can be understood as antisocial behaviour performed in order to gain attention or as a form of thrill seeking, but it also can be understood as an expressive art form.

'Me Che Fai?"= What do you do?
'Fu Allora Che Li' Vidi' = That's when I saw them (did you see that small, metal dog?)

'Urla!'+ 'Sbaglia'

Graffiti in Italy has gone from personal to political in order to reflect the current (?) economic crisis.
Graffiti has been known in Italy since the ancient Romans, who decorated the walls of Pompeii and the catacomb with declarations of love, curses and magic spells.
In fact the word ‘Graffiti’ derives from the Italian word ‘graffiare’ meaning to scratch something into a surface, and people in Italy still write their passions on the walls. [¬italiannotes.com/graffiti-in-italy]

Quite a shocking artist expression were the walls (they turned a corner) with young women silhouettes, all died in 2013.

a visit to a street art museum. Alas a visit to that (distant) museum did not fit in our short stay. Next time!
