Aero Lloyd was set up on 20Dec80, as a privat company. Operations were started in March 1981 with 3 SE 210 Caravelles 10Rs. The name goes back to Germany's pioneering days in civil aviation, in the 1920s.
Charter flights were operated to destinations in the Mediterranean. The company started expanding in 1986 with the introduction of the MD-80. Over the years 22 MD-82/83/87s were used. Aero Lloyd also started operating scheduled services in 1988, to London, Paris and Zurich. This proved to be a mistake and were ceased in 1992.
The fleet changed to Airbus products in January 1996. By 2002, Aero Lloyd's fleet consisted of 8 A320s and 11 A321s.
Aero Lloyd filed for insolvency on 16Oct03 and shut down operations at 0600.
