We wanted to do a whale watching trip on this vacation, but found opportunities limited so late in the season. It also had to fit in my stricttime schedule I had planned: we were covering 5 states in less than 3 weeks. Fortunately island-adventures.com in Anacortes fit the bill !

October 14th we reported at the Island Adventures office in Anacortes, got the paper work done and proceed to
the harbour for boarding. The boat 'Island Explorer' had the right size for me, not too small and not too massive.
The weather cooperated fully, though the wind was brisk and chilly of course.

We encountered a minke whale and her calf; we followed them for quite a while.
'Kiddo' was quite playful, but one really has to be quick to grasp the moment.
I think I have been on some 6 or 7 whale watching trips, but alas never got to see a whale breaching. Maybe one day..

When a whale goes on a big dive, it is always exciting to spot the place where it reappears. The excitement of the chase.

The mother whale has just exhaled and her young really goes for a deep dive. Everybody on the boat was excited!

One gets to see other wildlife too on a trip like this. We did not get to see orcas though.
